Curcuminoids Molecular Structures
Curcumin is a natural phenol found in Turmeric (a member of the Ginger family). It is the primary Curcuminoid found in Turmeric and accounts for Turmeric’s yellow color. Curcumin benefits the body with its powerful Antioxidant properties suppressing Superoxide, Singlet Oxygen and Peroxynitrite Free Radicals. Curcumin supplements are basically Turmeric Extracts standardized to a specific percentage of Curcumin. Curcumin is difficult for the body to absorb so it’s important to take it with a fat containing meal for optimal results.
Phytosome-Liposome Structure Comparison
Since Curcumin is difficult for the body to absorb, scientists developed a Curcumin Phytosome. A Phytosome is a phytonutrient that is already bound to a phospholipid simulating the nutrient’s processing by digestion. Since the phytonutrient is “preprocessed”, this form of Curcumin is highly absorbable by the body.

Curcumin (Turmeric)
USAGE
Curcumin is difficult to absorb. For best results, take Curcumin with or after meals containing fat to maximize its benefits. Dietary fats and the enzymes that digest them are required for the body to properly absorb Curcumin. Look for a Curcumin preparation that contains 95% Curcuminoids. The typical daily dosage for Curcumin in otherwise healthy individuals is 500-2,000mg per day split between meals. Dosing for other conditions such as Cancer can go as high as 8,000mg per day.
CAUTION:
• Curcumin can increase the effectiveness of certain blood thinners. If you supplement with Curcumin please check with your physician regarding this interaction as the dosage of your blood thinning medication may need to be reduced. DO NOT REDUCE YOUR MEDICATION without first checking with your doctor.
My Personal Recommendations:
Meriva Curcumin Phytosome
A Curcumin Phytosome is highly absorbable by the body and does not require food for proper utilization. A Curcumin Phytosome can be taken at any time of the day without regard to meals. Since a higher percentage of Curcumin is absorbed when formulated as a Phytosome, dosages are generally lower than with standard Curcumin.
